BOYS & GIRLS CLUB RIBBON CUTTING/ GRAND OPENING!
a new beginning for the Boys and Girls Club of
On Monday, a ribbon cutting
will celebrate the building's opening. The project
was put on by the Salvation Army and Housing
Authority. After months of hard work, the Boys and
Girls Club is ready to open. "The Housing
Authority partnered with us, had the property and
remodeled it and designed it just for the Boys and
Girls Club," said Lt. Lacy Parrish. It's on Milam
Street and is for those 6-14 years of age. Art
classes, a computer lab, and tutoring are just
some of the activities that'll be offered. "It's
just a safe, positive place for them to come after
school and have mentors in their lives and change
their future," said Parrish.
building took about six months to remodel. People
in the area are excited about what it'll do for
this Texarkana community. "We're very fortunate we
have the revitalization of the Boys and Girls
Club," said Mayor Bob Bruggeman. Bruggeman says
local youth will thrive from it. "We can keep our
young boys and girls engaged, active in the
community and provide them a safe environment for
them to go," said Bruggeman.
Growing up can
be tough. "Kids are facing so much more now,
bullying, texting, peer pressure," said Parrish.
"If we want to change tomorrow, it starts today."
In about a week, the boys and girls club will be
there to help. There's a small enrollment fee of
about $20 per year.

also asking for those interested in mentoring to

HATT HOPE VI PROGRAM ENDS
The HATT HOPE VI Program/ RoseHill Revitalization
ends September 2013. As we complete
construction on our last development, RoseHill
Ridge, and close out the grant, HATT is committed to providing supportive services to help families make
the transition to greater self-sufficiency. Toward that end, HATT will be reorganizing the
HOPE VI Department
into the Resident Engagement department this fall
in order to continue to provide services to ALL
HATT residents beyond the HOPE VI grant period.
The reorganization will include a
strategic departmental shift to change our focus
from intensive case-management for select HOPE VI
families to a broader, more comprehensive
referral-based program that can be accessed by all
of our residents and others in the community. The
new department will be focused on developing
relationships with agencies in our community that
provide the services our residents need, and to
bring those services to our families.
As the grant ends and we restructure the
department, all current positions funded under the
grant will end also. So our first step is to
restaff our department. All positions have been
